The 121-semester-hour Bachelor of
Science Degree in Workforce Education and Development with a
concentration in Education, Training, and Development includes three
major components:
Courses in curriculum development,
the adult learner, instructional methods, assessment of learner progress,
training systems management, and philosophy of work education were
included as well as independent study classes in writing research papers,
technical report and proposal writing, and education/labor linkages are
require. The major culminates in a 6-semester-hour( 225 clock hour)
instructional or professional internship. This work prepares the student
to develop and manage training programs in educational, military,
industrial, and other settings.

and related technical training courses
Students usually have completed
extensive training in their occupation of choice before entering the WED
program. Community college and technical courses are accepted by SIUC.
However, students are also required to document a minimum of 4,000 clock
hours (2 years full time) of experience in their occupational
specialization. A combination of work experience and training is required.
A majority of courses will be recognized by Workforce Education and
Development, in conjunction with two years related full-time work
experience, to complete this third of the Bachelor of Science Degree.

Core Curriculum (UCC)
UCC includes work in English,
Science, Math, Speech, Humanities, Fine Arts, Health, and Integrative
Studies. A variety of courses are offered in a structured program, which
off-campus students may complete at local schools. UCC courses re required
of all baccalaureate degree programs offered at SIU.
The Capstone Option is a
special feature of the SIUC program recognizing the work of students who
have earned by the end of their first SIUC semester an occupationally
oriented associate degree (or equivalent certification) of at least 60
semester hours with a 2.25 GPA. Acceptance into the Capstone program
reduces the UCC requirements from 41 to a total of 30 semester hours as
follows: English Composition - 3 semester hours, Speech - 3 semester
hours, Mathematics - 3 semester hour, Natural Science - 6 semester hours
in 2 groups, Social Sciences - 6 semester hours, Humanities - 3 semester
hours, Fine Arts - 3 semester hours, and Multicultural Diversity - 3
semester hours.
